Migrations: Great Journeys in World Music
Chango Spasiuk

RECOMMENDED SHOW (Venue Magazine)
'Ukrainian polkas collide with Argentinean chamame dance music as Chango Spasiuk whips out his trusty accordion and, in league with his six-piece band, sets about tearing up St George's Bristol with laments and love songs to his 'red earth' homeland, Tierra Colorada. He rocked
St George's last time he came, not least because of singer / guitarist Sebastian Villalba who is still part of Spasiuk's band. Awesome.'

Red earth music to make you laugh and cry.

Horacio 'Chango' Spasiuk, is an accordion wizard from Missiones in Argentina, where he learned to adapt the polkas beloved of his Ukrainian grandparents to the 6/8 rhythms of the local chamamé dance music. The title of his long-awaited new album is 'Pynandi' - an indigenous Guarani word referring to "barefoot" rural poverty - whose 15 songs form a kind of love letter to the Tierra Colorada ("red earth country") of Chango's homeland, jaunty dance tunes mixed with stark laments. His new sextet includes the unforgettable guitarist and singer Sebastian Villalba, familiar from previous St George's performances.

'Spasiuk has revitalised the music's barn-dance traditions to create something thrillingly modern and cosmopolitan.'
THE TIMES

Late Music Session in the Festival Bar:
Michael Martin, Spanish and Latin guitar (live set)

Join us for an after-show party / music session and an exclusive drinks promotion.

Michael Martin, a Singapore-born British classical guitarist with technique to burn, demonstrates his mastery of the Spanish and Latin American guitar canon with superb skill, dazzling lyrical freedom and a seemingly effortless style of playing.

Underpinned by astounding, yet unshowy brilliance, and in the relaxed, informal atmosphere of the Festival Bar, traditional melodies, original compositions and evocative arrangements of Albeniz, Barrios and Tarrega come alive. A gorgeous meditation on the Spanish and Latin-guitar.

And to help the pound in your pocket go a little further, the tempting drinks deals in the Festival Bar include bottles of Budvar, Peroni and Sol for £2, and Averys French Country Red or White wine for £10 a bottle.
