Migrations: Great Journeys in World Music
Moishe's Bagel
Troyka: Balkan Gypsy Street Party Sounds (live set) Late Music Session A Migrations 2010 Event. Visit migrationsmusic.com for further information. RECOMMENDED SHOW (Venue Magazine) 'Five musicians from Edinburgh who take klezmer themes as their starting point, with elaborate and compelling arrangements for piano, accordion, violin, bass and percussion that can veer from Balkan wedding band to Penguin Cafe Orchestra in an instant. A completely fresh take on the music, therefore, and beautifully done.'Rip-roaring, fiendishly fast, Balkan Klezmer dance party. 'Exhilarating, full-flavoured stuff, often breath-takingly intricate but played with jubilation … the Bagel acquires the momentum of an express train.' THE HERALD Moishe's Bagel, to a man, have an almost unbearably exotic musical melee coursing undiluted through their veins: an irresistible melding of Scots Klezmer, Balkan Gypsy folk and Asian percussion, with a hefty dash of jazz and a pinch of Breton. Its energetic and heart-wrenching music turbo-driven by a seemingly unquenchable vigour and passion, the Bagel kick up one heck of a fuss live, playing with a fiery spirit that goes hand in fist with virtuosity and precision. A fantastically moving musical experience, the fast-faster-supersonic momentum blows you away. 'Expressive and raunchy … improvising confidence but with a classical attention to detail.' THE GUARDIAN Late Music Session in the Festival Bar: Troyka: Balkan Gypsy Street Party Sounds Join us for an after-show party / music session and an exclusive drinks promotion. On the strength of their powerful shows as part of the Migrations world music festival at St. George's and Mood Swings at the Colston Hall, the Bristol based trio Troyka (Vlada's masterful harmonica, Sophie's fluid, virtuoso clarinet and ethereal vocals, and Barney's compelling acoustic guitar and rousing darbuka and vocals) has created its own distinct sound-world, uninhibitedly colliding fast and furious Balkan, Gypsy and Eastern European folk-dances into a high-octane live set. Described as 'the original and genuine sound of Balkan music' by The London Paper, it is a vibrant and ruggedly innovative music, alternating relentless drive and raw virtuosity with a glowing sensitivity.
