Migrations: Great Journeys in World Music
The Necks
RECOMMENDED SHOW (Venue Magazine) A Migrations 09 Event. Visit migrationsmusic.com for further information. Formed in Sydney 20 years ago, The Necks are one of the world's great cult bands, with an unclassifiable style calling upon jazz, kraut-rock, ambient minimalism and native Australian traditions of trance. Each performance is unique, as the three members - piano, bass, drums - create intricately textured, site-specific performances where the music builds and builds, creating shimmering patterns and deep, bass-heavy grooves until, as The Guardian puts it: "the entire room is throbbing to an ecstatic pulse." Prepare to be amazed. 'The real deal.... Anyone can play around with sound - but The Necks know how to sculpt it into a stunning work of art.' Chris Abrahams (piano) Tony Buck (drums) Lloyd Swanton (bass) 'Entirely new and entirely now ... They produce a post-jazz, post-rock, post-everything sonic experience that has few parallels or rivals. They may teach us to listen in a new way, but they communicate a fierce energy and warmth at the same time. Their music is a thrilling, emotional journey into the unknown. Like seeing a world in a grain of sand, The Necks permit us to hear a whole new world of music in a sliver of sound.' THE GUARDIAN |
