Christian Blackshaw (piano):
Mozart Sonata Cycle l RECOMMENDED SHOW (Venue Magazine) 'Spread over four programmes the distinguished pianist tackles the "full Mozart".'Mozart Sonata No 1 in C K279 Sonata No 2 in F K280 Sonata No 9 in D K311 Sonata No 17 in B flat K570 Sonata No 8 in A minor K310 'Blackshaw's playing simply defines class and classical.' THE BALTIMORE SUN Our Mozart Sonata Cycle opens with two early piano sonatas, works of relative simplicity but great charm that the young virtuoso Mozart performed as he toured around Europe. From the melancholic strains of his second sonata, we move on to some of his more complex later sonatas: the extraordinary Sonata No 9 with its ghostly Rondo written by Mozart in response to his mother’s tragic death from typhus; and the penultimate sonata, No 17, which contains one of the most serene slow movements in all music. 6.15pm Pre-concert Talk Christian Blackshaw introduces the Mozart Piano Sonata Cycle. Free to ticket holders. 'Christian Blackshaw is a musician utterly sensitive to the discoursive element of the music, who can enchant with incandescance, discretion, good taste, perfection of style.'
