Reported cases have dropped 99.8% from 350,000 a year to fewer than 2,000 a year. Rotary International is the worlds first service club organisation, and has more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Due to the efforts of Rotary, the world is on the threshold of eradicating the polio virus. The Bill and Miranda Gates Foundation have agreed to donate $255 million to the cause provided Rotary International match fund $200 million. Our share here in Bristol is £20,000 and this concert is one of a number of initiatives being undertaken to reach our target. Bristol Savages was founded by artists in 1904 who met weekly and chose a subject which they painted and talked about afterwards. They were joined later by entertainers and an audience. Similar weekly meetings still take place when the artists are given a subject and paint it within two hours which is then viewed by the members who are then entertained for two hours. Acts include a big swing band, musicians, magicians, raconteurs and singers. It is very rare that Bristol Savages perform outside the Red Lodge so this is a unique opportunity to see what a Savages evening involves. They are joined by young musicians and singers including the acclaimed virtuoso violinist Julia Hwang and soprano Josephine Goddard. 'Child prodigy violinist Julia Hwang [gave] a heartrending evening of stunning virtuosity. It is very rare to witness such remarkable talent in one so young.' THE DAILY MAIL '[Josephine Goddard has] beautiful, clean, clear soprano tones.' BRISTOL EVENING POST
