The Bristol Ensemble are joined by soprano Jennifer Walker and the classical guitarist Amanda Cook for a captivating celebration of the spirit and soul of the Americas, as embodied in Rodrigo's hugely popular masterpiece, the Guitar Concerto, and the subtle evocation of the music of Bach by Brazil's greatest composer Heitor Villa-Lobos: No 2's bluesy, brilliant depictions of a steam locomotive trip through rural Brazil, and the exceptionally beautiful No 5 for wordless soprano and eight cellos.

Framed by the tango music of Astor Piazzolla (touched by sadness, yet so vibrant and so intensely of the moment, balanced between pain and joy) and de Falla's showpiece El Amor Brujo, one cannot help but be swept along by this wonderfully rich portrait of Latin America.
