Schubert (arr. Hans Zender) Winterreise

Winterreise Concert Text

Aurora Orchestra presents Hans Zender’s extraordinary ‘composed interpretation’ of Winterreise – a stunning adaptation of Schubert’s song-cycle in which the original piano accompaniment is replaced by virtuosic chamber orchestra forces. Based on poems by Wilhelm Müller, Schubert’s wanderer embarks upon a ‘winter journey’ of unrequited love, sung here by one of the outstanding singers of his generation, tenor Allan Clayton. Clayton has received critical acclaim for his appearances on international concert and operatic stages, most recently for his role as Cassio for ENO’s production of Otello. In 2015 he makes an eagerly anticipated return to Glyndebourne to perform Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia.
