30th Anniversary Concert
Ewa Strusińska conductor
Alexandra Dariescu piano
Mendelssohn A Midsummer Night’s Dream Overture Op 21
Mozart Piano Concerto No 27 K595
Beethoven Symphony No 5 in C minor
This outstanding Bristol orchestra returns to St George’s in glittering form to mark an extraordinary 30 years of music-making in the city. A moment like this calls for something special so bhco has invited the remarkable young Romanian pianist Alexandra Dariescu to perform Mozart’s masterly final piano concerto – which Mozart himself performed on this very day, 4th March, in 1791.
After the delicate fairy-flights-of-fancy of Mendelssohn’s Overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream, conductor Ewa Strusińska raises the baton with her customary confidence and flair to lead the orchestra in what is sure to be a stirring performance of Beethoven’s epoch-making Fifth Symphony. A triumphant work to mark an important moment in the history of this popular orchestra.
