A new score (performed live)
Mercury nominated, Blue Note Records signed acoustic-electronica trio GoGo Penguin present a special filmic preview of their latest project: a live sound + vision performance featuring their own newly composed soundtrack to Godfrey Reggio’s 1982 cult classic, ‘Koyaanisqatsi’, one of the most successful documentary films ever made. Sometimes called “a visual tone poem’, and originally scored by Philip Glass, ‘Koyaanisqatsi’ (a Hopi word meaning ‘Life Out of Balance’) contrasts the fragile beauty of the natural world with the frenzied action of cities and technology, using time-lapse photography to create strikingly beautiful images. GoGo Penguin’s rich, emotionally charged music offers a perfect new counterpart to Reggio’s profound images, powerfully reflecting the themes of the film in an overwhelming audio-visual performance that will appeal in equal measure to fans of GoGo Penguin and cult cinema alike.
This event now takes place at Colston Hall
