Haydn Seven Last Words of Our Saviour on the Cross

Since its formation at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival in 1999 the Callino Quartet has been impressing international audiences and critics alike with their bold, imaginative and sensitive performances.  The Callino Quartet takes its name from the Irish air “Cailin cois tSuir a me” which means Girl by the River Suir.

The programme includes ‘Seven Last Words of Our Saviour on the Cross’ by Joseph Haydn, which was commissioned in 1783 for the Good Friday Service at the Holy Care Oratory in Cadiz. Originally written for orchestra, Haydn adapted it in 1787 for String Quartet.
