Aurora Orchestra Music Nation

Nicholas Collon conductor

Mozart Adagio and Fugue in C minor
Strauss Metamorphosen
Mozart Symphony No 31 in D Paris
Bernstein (arr Farrington) West Side Story Symphonic Dances

Is it too bold a claim to suggest that Aurora Orchestra represents the future of classical music? National music critics don’t seem to think so; they’ve been unanimous in their praise of the orchestra and Nicholas Collon, one of the country’s most dynamic conductors, and bowled over by the startlingly good performances they so consistently deliver.

As part of Music Nation, a spectacular weekend of music around the UK to create excitement in the lead up to the finale of the Cultural Olympiad in 2012, Bristol is putting on its own musical celebrations and Aurora Orchestra is at its heart. This new programme takes its inspiration from the vibrant lives of cities around the world, visiting Mozart’s thrilling Paris Symphony and finishing with dance music by Leonard Bernstein from the Broadway hit West Side Story – a dazzling score that evokes all the passions and restless energy of teenage gangs in 1950s New York.

‘A fabulous young chamber orchestra that in six years of existence has emerged as one of the most dynamic, innovative and open-minded groups of its kind.’ The Telegraph

‘Startlingly good performances from Nicholas Collon and the orchestra, fizzing with energy and enthusiasm.’ The Guardian
