Copland Appalachian Spring
Barber Violin Concerto
Dvořák Symphony No 7 in D minor

America comes to Bristol with two stunning masterpieces composed in the 1940s. Copland’s signature Appalachian Spring, originally conceived as ballet music and later revised as an orchestral suite, is instantly recognisable for its unforgettable Shaker Melody. In the US, Samuel Barber’s elegiac, lyrically romantic violin concerto is revered. And here, the brilliant, internationally acclaimed Russian violinist Natalia Lomeiko offers a wonderfully persuasive advocacy for the work. The BMO then renews Dvořák’s magnificent, intensely Czech, Seventh Symphony to splendid freshness.

“Lomeiko is one of the most brilliant of our younger violinists.” Yehudi Menuhin
