York Bowen Clarinet Sonata
Andrew Wilson The Rock Mill Variations (Première)
Simon Milton Sonata in One Movement (Première)
John Ireland Fantasy Sonata

Young clarinettist Peter Cigleris launches St George’s Lunchtime Classics season with a delightfully English programme paying homage to John Ireland, who died 50 years ago this year. The extrovert passion of Ireland’s own Fantasy Sonata and the lyrical Clarinet Sonata of his contemporary York Bowen frame two ‘firsts’ – Andrew Wilson’s The Rock Mill Variations, grounded on Ireland’s The Holy Boy melody, and Simon Milton’s Sonata in One Movement, written in tribute to Ireland’s clarinet music.

‘[An] impressive young soloist, with a nicely rounded tone and nimble passage-work.’ Birmingham Post
