Classical Music at the Movies

with Jonathan James, David Bednall and Michael Beek

‘Beyond The Barline’ returns this coming season with a special seven-part series of talks about classical music and the big screen.  From the 1930’s onwards, many ‘classical’ composers were lured to Hollywood to write epic scores – and to fatten their pay cheques. Even Stravinsky and Schoenberg flirted with the silver screen. This series will be an entertaining survey of the big names who balanced Art music with the world of film and of those who were deeply influenced by classical traditions.

Regular series presenters Jonathan James and David Bednall are joined by Bristol Film Music Journalist Michael Beek this season, which sees extended talks move to the main auditorium.  Each talk will feature film and music clips, with a short break for coffee.
