Introductions to Classical Piano

After the success of ‘The Piano Album’ (released through Sony  Classical) and his first tour in 2018,  Alistair  McGowan  is back with this hugely-popular show which  brings  together  all  his  talents.  Along with some classical piano pieces from his  album, Alistair will  also play a variety of short pieces pieces  from  Glass to Chopin,  from Grieg to Debussy, from John Field to Bill Evans.  Join Alistair as he talks a little about the history of  each  piece,  each  composer  and  the problems and benefits of starting to learn the piano at the age of 49.  Expect a lot of  beautiful  music  (with  the  odd  mistake!) and  more than a  sprinkling  of  his  trademark  impressions.

Alistair McGowan is an impressionist, stand-up comedian, actor, writer and, latterly, pianist.  His TV credits include The Big Impression, Bleak House, Live At The Apollo and he was one of the voices and writers of the new hit comedy show,  The Week That Wasn’t (Sky One). As an actor, he has appeared in the West End in Pygmalion, Cabaret, The Mikado and Little Shop of Horrors  (for which he was Olivier-nominated). He devised and performed Sincerely Noel (a musical tribute to Noel Coward) and, in 2016, Erik Satie’s-faction, a one-man play in which he portrayed Erik Satie and played several of his piano pieces. He has also written Radio 4 plays (and fronted Radio 4 documentaries) about Satie and John Field.
