Conductor James Henshaw
Soloist James Willshire
Mendelssohn Overture Ruy Blas
Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No 3
Dvorak Symphony No 7
Rachmaninoff’s 3rd Piano Concerto has long had the reputation of being one of the most technically challenging works in the repertoire and tonight’s soloist, James Willshire, lauded for his “spectacular musicianship and technical brilliance” [The Scotsman] is sure to dazzle.
Framing the gargantuan concerto, Mendelssohn’s overture Ruy Blas seethes with feverish energy, whilst Dvorak’s 7th Symphony encompasses stormy turbulence, Slavonic pastoral idyll and exultation. Conductor James Henshaw became one of ENO’s youngest-ever chorus-masters with an international award-winning tenure in 2016 and has conducted operas for many of the UK’s professional opera companies. Tonight’s concert marks his debut with BHCO.
