This year’s works include Schumann’s Symphony No 2, Op 61, Brahms’ Schicksalslied, and Haydn’s The Seasons and Insanae et Vanae Curae.
Bristol University Music Society are proud to present their annual collaborative concert between the Chamber Choir and Chamber Orchestra.
Schumann’s 2nd symphony, his first major symphonic work following his illness explores both the hardships of his suffering as well as his joy at overcoming these.
Brahms’ Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny), is a setting of a poem by Hölderlin representing the contrast between the lives of those in Elysium and those of mortals stuck on earth, struggling against Fate and Destiny. Haydn’s Seasons expertly uses instruments to show the change of the harsh winter into the delicate beauty of spring.
