BBC Folk award-winning visionary Hannah James is an English clog dancer, accordion player, singer and star of British folk. The Jigdoll Ensemble is her most ambitious project to date. Starring an international lineup of award winning performers, this stunning multi-discipline show combines dance, music, body percussion and spoken word in a spellbinding tour de force.
James shot to fame as a teenager, stunning folk audiences acrosss the UK and beyond with her virtuosic accordion skill and rich, natural vocal style. But her breathtaking clog and foot percussion repertoire prove that she is as much a dancer as a musician. The Jigdoll Ensemble showcases both sides of this exceptional artist who has handpicked three master-musicians to collaborate with: Glasgow fiddle player Kate Young, Estonian bassist Marti Tarn and Hungarian percussionst András Des.
This autumn the Jigdoll Ensemble are releasing their first recording, The Woman and Her Words. Recorded at Budapest Music Centre, this long awaited debut is set to be ne of the most important records of the year. Exploring themes of toxic masculinity, belonging, the human experience, love and the female power which shines through all of James’ masterful composing.
