Sex, celebrity, scandal…some things never change! Opera A La Carte returns to St George’s with Verdi’s La Traviata, the star-crossed story of courtesan Violetta’s passionate affair with the young bourgeois Alfredo whom she is forced to leave to avoid tarnishing his family’s reputation. First performed in Venice in 1853, it was originally set in 1700 due to the censors’ demands. Tonight the tale moves to the 1930s. Full cast to be announced.

Opera a la Carte, sister company of Regents Opera, is one of the UK’s most original chamber opera companies, featuring established talents alongside rising stars. This production features costumes and some stage furniture and the music is performed by a small chamber ensemble and sung in Italian.
