Janina Fialkowska Piano
Beethoven String Quartet Op 18 No 1
Beethoven Piano Concerto No 3 in C minor (arr. Vinzenz Lachner for piano quintet)
Beethoven Piano Concerto No 4 in G major (arr. Vinzenz Lachner for piano quintet)
An anniversary as monumental as Beethoven’s 250th cannot be ignored, and deserves to be celebrated with performances of his most powerful and poetic music. We may not have a full orchestra at our disposal, but to share with you these two piano concertos, we have instead the intimate and sonorous pairing of the Piatti Quartet, one of the most distinguished string quartets of its generation, and the exquisite pianism of Janina Fialkowska.
Each concert begins with Beethoven’s early quartet masterpiece, the first of the Opus 18 quartets, so you are left with just one decision: to choose the 3pm concert which leads on to the stormy and heroic Third Concerto, cast in the tragic key of C minor; or the 7pm concert with the beautiful, elegant yet radical Fourth Concerto. It may just have to be both!
