The South-West Open Youth Orchestra (SWOYO) is the UK’s only disabled-led regional youth orchestra. Blending acoustic and electronic instruments, using accessible EyeGaze technology, and uniting both disabled and non-disabled young musicians, SWOYO represents a completely new take on what an orchestra can be.
Since its inception in 2015, this RPS Award-winning ensemble has performed at Bristol Cathedral, Colston Hall, Wiltshire Music Centre and a live Radio 3 broadcast on BBC Music Day, demonstrating the ambition and skill to which young disabled musicians can aspire.
What better way to celebrate the newly transformed and accessible St George’s than with this uniquely modern young orchestra, giving their final performance as SWOYO, before relaunching as the National Open Youth Orchestra in September 2018.
The South-West Open Youth Orchestra is delivered by OpenUp Music in partnership with Bristol Music Trust, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the British ParaOrchestra.
