Heritage Group Tours
Led by our fantastic Heritage Volunteers, these tours last approx. one hour and take in both the inside and outside of the building. They offer fascinating insights into the history of St George’s, with special focus on how it came to be built, the architect Robert Smirke, the type of parish it served over the years, the burial ground, its role in WW2, Canon Percy Gay, its transition from church to Music Trust, and its development in more recent times.
The route takes groups around the building then into the hall, through the backstage area, down to the crypt and eventually into the new extension (where coffee and cake are always an excellent way to end a visit!).
