Welcome back Cosmos enthusiasts!
It’s been a while, but I am pleased to say that I am back in action with my blogging! Here is a quick report on what our Cosmonauts have been working on…
Over the first term, we were working on a selection of songs from different countries, and eras. We have a solid group of around 35-40 singers, who have all been picking up the material very quickly. We alternate between different warm up activities, all of which the Cosmonauts are very enthusiastic about! One of their particular favourites is Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, which allows them to each exhibit their fantastic voices, by singing solos to other members of the choir. We have some very talented blossoming singers in our choir.
Today was our first session back after 2 weeks of half term, and I am happy to report that our singers have remembered a tremendous amount of music! We ran through some songs that we will be including in our lunchtime concert at 1pm on the 3rd of December at St George’s Bristol – Goldfinger, from the James Bond film, and Blackbird by the Beatles. I am including a recording we did of Blackbird from today’s rehearsal – aren’t they sounding fantastic!
We are now starting to prepare our Christmas repertoire, which will include some classics that the audience can sing along to. We will also be joined by Merchants Academy Primary Choirs and the Big Friendly Choir, which is also conducted by our MD Mark Lawrence. It should be a wonderful concert, so don’t miss it!
I will try to update this blog more frequently in the next weeks, and add some more recordings of the choir!
