Welcome, Cosmos enthusiasts, to my very first blog!
For those of you who don’t know me, I am Caitlin Callahan, the Cosmos Coordinator, and I joined the choir back in January 2015 (you can find more information about me here). Cosmos is a truly special choir, which is open to all Year 4, 5 and 6’s in the South Bristol area. Every term we deliver a diverse mix of musical genres, which exposes our singers to music from around the world. We meet Thursdays during term time from 3:30pm to 5pm, which means that there is lots of time for singing (and break-time musical games!).
It has been a busy time at Cosmos since I joined. We have performed two very successful concerts, including a small end of term concert at Greenfield E-Act Primary (our home from January-June 2015), and a larger concert with other partner choirs at Merchants Academy, which served as the inaugural concert for Sounds Inspiring festival of song. I honestly couldn’t be prouder of the work that all of our singers put in to learning the music and lyrics for these concerts – it’s a tough job, but they did it with style!
After being based at Greenfield E-Act Primary for the past two terms, we will now be moving to Knowle Park Primary School for a full year of vocal excitement. Our first rehearsal is on the 17th of September, and we are hoping to see some familiar faces joining our ranks once again.
In preparation for this busy rehearsal season, I’ve been scheming with Mark Lawrence (our Musical Director), to prepare a programme of songs for the two concerts that we will perform: our biggest one will be on the 3rd of December at St George’s Bristol. We’ve also got a potential international collaboration on our hands, but more information about that in later blogs… Watch this space!
