Blue Plaque Event

Celebrating 200 years of St George’s

This event has passed.

St George’s was built 200 years ago, and what better time to celebrate this incredible building’s heritage than on St George’s Day!

We are delighted to be honouring the memory of Canon Percy Gay with a special Bristol Civic Society Blue Plaque in his name.

Please join us in the hall where the plaque will be revealed, and to hear more about Canon Gay’s 45 years as vicar of St George’s (1930 – 1975).

This event takes place in the concert hall, where memories of Canon Gay and of St George’s days as a working church will be shared by Rodney Drew (former chorister and the last organist at St George’s), Brenda Whitehead (former head teacher of St George’s Primary) and Reverend Canon Peter Garlick (son of St George’s long-term organist George Garlick). There will also be musical treats in store!
