Brahms Clarinet Sonatas

This event has passed.

Part of Clifton International Festival of Music and is taking place at St Paul’s Church

This year’s Artist-in-Residence, Poppy Beddoe, takes to the stage for the first time for a varied programme of music for the clarinet.

Johannes Brahms reemerged from retirement especially to write his two Clarinet sonatas and what an addition to the repertoire they are! The F minor sonata evokes deep sadness whereas the second work, in E flat major, is more reflective and peaceful. Both works highlight the wonderful potential of the clarinet and piano combination and Brahms’s undoubted genius in handling of form.

This concert will also feature works from Poppy’s recently released debut album, Soliloquy.
