Lyricism and rhythmic energy are both very much to the fore in two contrasting works that form the heart of this programme – Schumann’s Piano Concerto, with its passionate and intimate dialogue between soloist and orchestra, and Sibelius’s Symphony No 6, notable for its serene, spacious textures and understated power.

Pianist Llŷr Williams, praised for his “deeply considered and commanding” (The Guardian), Schumann teams up once again with Brandon Hill Chamber Orchestra to play the piano concerto. Fresh from rave reviews of Barber of Seville at Glyndebourne in the summer of 2025 Rory Macdonald conducts Sibelius’s haunting and atmospheric Symphony No 6. The concert opens with Berlioz’s spirited overture to Beatrice and Benedict.
