Clare Teal and Denny Ilett perform ‘Latin For Lovers’
The Bossa Nova albums of Doris Day and Frank Sinatra
This event has passed.
Two iconic albums performed in their entirety by an all star band fronted by Clare Teal and Denny Ilett.
It’s the mid-1960s and the musical world is under the spell of the sun-drenched rhythms of the Bossa Nova. Brazilian genius Antonio Carlos Jobim has been crowned the King of the Bossa, having composed many of its iconic melodies such as The Girl From Ipanema, Meditation, Corcovado and Desafinado. Record companies have all the major stars recording albums featuring these beautiful tales of love and loss – none bigger than Doris Day and Frank Sinatra. Day’s beautiful 1965 offering Latin For Lovers was followed, in 1967, by Sinatra’s pairing with Jobim himself. Both albums were full of sumptuous strings and gentle percussion accented by warm, lush woodwind and brass.
Both albums have been meticulously transcribed by trombonist/orchestrator Ian Bateman with vocalist Clare Teal performing the role of Doris Day while Denny Ilett steps into Sinatra’s shoes.
A 25-piece orchestra has been assembled to accompany Teal and Ilett on Jobim classics such as Girl From Ipanema, How Insensitive, Corcovado which sit seamlessly with Bossa renditions of such Great American Songbook staples as Fly Me To The Moon, Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps and Change Partners.
Neither record has ever been performed in public before making this special concert a unique event.
