Classical Up Close: Jonathan Rees and Emily White duo

A programme of improvised and improvisatory music spanning 5 centuries of western musical styles, performed by Emily White on sackbut and violin, and Jonathan Rees on viols.

The programme includes music by or “after” Henry Purcell, Barbara Strozzi, Dave Brubeck, Enrique Granados, Diego Ortiz, Carl Friedrich Abel, and Bristol-based composer John Barber.

Classical Up Close

Classical Up Close is a new strand of concerts offering a glimpse into the breadth and richness of the classical canon in an informal setting. For these first three concerts artists will perform in the round ‘on the flat’ (not on the stage) in the main hall at St George’s, and audiences will be able to sit or stand around them, or move around if they want. Each concert will be 45 minutes long and give a snapshot of a particular element of classical music. These bitesize concerts are ideal for newbies to classical and classical lovers alike.
