The multi-platinum, internationally acclaimed singer / songwriter David Gray also has a deep and abiding love of nature. Tonight he talks to award-winning conservationist and nature writer Mary Colwell about his relationship with the natural world and how it has inspired his songwriting.
David is involved with a number of conservation projects across the country, from Norfolk beaches to the island of Skomer, as well as protecting the endangered curlew, and his music is rich in natural imagery – listen to his latest album Skellig to get a flavour. Expect the conversation to be wide-ranging, good-humoured and thoughtful and for David to spontaneously take to the piano whenever he feels like it!
Proceeds from tonight’s concert will go towards Curlew Action.
Mary Colwell is an author, producer and campaigner for nature. She is the author of 4 books, the most recent of which, The Gathering Place, is published by Bloomsbury in April 2023. In 2022 she was awarded the prestigious RSPB Medal for her contribution to nature and conservation and she successfully spearheaded the campaign to introduce a GCSE in Natural History into the school curriculum. She is Chair of the government supported Curlew Recovery Partnership England, a roundtable of organisations charged with restoring curlews, their habitats and associated wildlife across England.
