The sensational and generally unknown multi-choir music of Roman 17th century maestro Orazio Benevoli is taking the early choral world by storm.
Written for spatially separated choirs, the effect in St George’s will be enhanced by four special doubling choirs around the entire audience. Reviews of I Fagiolini’s new Benevoli recordings speak of “the variety, splendour and beauty of Roman Baroque music” (BBC Music Magazine) and “Sonic bliss… awash in gloriousness… like Italian sunshine… musical magic” (Gramophone). Prepare yourselves and also learn why the music features a ‘mule’ (Robert Hollingworth will explain all).
