How do we listen?

In our world of online distraction, what happens if we stop for a moment, take a collective breath and really listen to ourselves and the world around us? What does it mean to come together and truly listen to magical sounds being created for all our senses?

Join us for an extraordinary evening this September as we welcome Dame Evelyn Glennie, the world’s premiere percussionist, accompanied by Bristol Ensemble, to explore these questions through a beautiful and immersive performance specially created for St George’s.

From Vivaldi to Richter, this eclectic programme will be performed in the round for an audience of just 250 – less than half our main hall’s normal capacity. Expect to feel the music up close and see St George’s in a new light through this extraordinary performance, which will not be recorded or repeated.

“My career and my life have been about listening in the deepest possible sense. Losing my hearing meant learning how to listen differently, to discover features of sound I hadn’t realised existed. Losing my hearing made me a better listener.” – Dame Evelyn Glennie

This attention to listening, combined with the magic of collectively experiencing live music, lies at the heart of our mission at St George’s. We strive to create extraordinary live musical experiences, for everyone.

Live Postcard Auction

Following the Listen In performance, we’ll be holding a special live auction of unique postcards, penned and illustrated by a roll-call of artists, speakers and musicians who have performed at St George’s over the years – a once-only opportunity for the winning bidders to take home a slice of the magic that takes place on our stage.

With more information, and postcard previews, to be announced.

Accessibility at Listen In

The Listen In performance will take place in the round, in the St George’s main hall. Because of this, the performance won’t follow a normal St George’s seating plan, and wheelchair-accessible seats will not be in their usual positions.

If you are an Access Register customer, have any questions about accessibility at Listen In, or wish to book wheelchair seats for Listen In, please contact our Development Team directly via development@stgeorgesbristol.co.uk. We’ll be delighted to help you.

Please note – if booking multiple Listen In tickets online, the lead booker will be prompted to specify names and dietary requirements for their other party members during the online booking journey.

Due to the purpose of this event, there is a Gift Aid-able donation value built into the ticket price.

We can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you donate, if you enable us to claim Gift Aid. It won’t cost you any extra. If you have not yet completed a Gift Aid declaration on your St George’s customer account, we will be in touch with you to see if you would like to do this. Alternatively, please contact us via development@stgeorgesbristol.co.uk

If you would like to attend the event without including this donation, you are able to do so by contacting the Development team on the email address above to reserve your ticket/s (subject to availability).

Listen In tickets are subject to St George’s normal ticketing terms and conditions. We don’t charge a booking fee for Listen In tickets.
