Lunchtime Concert: Maciej Kulakowski

In 2015 at the age of 19, Maciej won 1st Prize at the Lutoslawski International Cello Competition. He was a Laureate in the Finals of the 2017 Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, and a prize winner at the 2019 YCAT International Auditions at Wigmore Hall.

This season Maciej returns to Wigmore Hall as soloist, takes part in the Cello Biennale in Amsterdam, makes his debut with the London Mozart Players, and records for Delphian.

Other solo appearances include the Sinfonietta Cracovia at the Penderecki Festival, the Polish Chamber Philharmonic, Siberian State Symphony and Poznań Philharmonic Orchestras.

Recitals and chamber music have taken Maciej across Europe and further afield, including the Piatigorsky Cello Festival in Los Angeles, Beijing Super Cello Festival, the Lutoslawski, Moritzburg, Kronberg, Krzyzowa Music, Hohenstaufen and Munich Rising Stars Festivals.

He has collaborated with Viviane Hagner, Stephen Waarts, Charles Neidich and Krzysztof Penderecki and worked with conductors Eivind Gullberg Jensen, Frank Braley and Stéphane Denève.

Born in Gdansk, Maciej studies with Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt at the Kronberg Academy.
