Two national treasures come together in a one-off evening of readings from their latest books and reflections on life, living and growing older.
Michael Morpurgo’s latest book, Funny Thing, Getting Older, collects for the first time his reflections from a lifetime of writing stories about the world. Woven amongst a play, a poem or two, and even a few stories are his musings on nature, childhood, writing, and getting older.
Roger McGough’s latest collection, The Collected Poems: 1959-2024, presents the definitive selection of his very best work, from the Mersey-soaked sound of the sixties start through to tender meditations on fatherhood and family, all laced with his trademark humour.
Michael is the much-loved former Children’s Laureate and best-selling author of War Horse. Roger is the “patron saint of poetry”, according to Carol Ann Duffy; at age 88, he has published over 100 poetry books and is the host of Radio 4’s flagship programme Poetry Please. Their wit, warmth and wisdom will make this an irresistibly enjoyable evening.
“Roger McGough is a true original and more than one generation would be much the poorer without him.” The Times
“Our master storyteller – Michael Morpurgo.” Joanna Lumley
