Moishe's Bagel

This event has passed.

Due to the current catastrophic events in Ukraine, St George’s and Moishe’s Bagel have jointly agreed it would be inappropriate to show Salt for Svanetia at their concert on 10 March. Although the film was made in 1928 we feel the resonance between themes in the film and today’s events are too close to be ignored. We are sorry about this last-minute change but happy to say Moishe’s Bagel will still be performing a brilliant set of music, some new tunes and some more familiar.

Please note this event has been rescheduled from March 2020, February 2021 and September 2021. All tickets remain valid.

Please also note that this event has now returned to one full capacity show at 8pm, rather than two socially distanced performances.

Folk favourites Moishe’s Bagel return to St George’s with their specially commissioned live score for Mikhail Kalatozov’s 1931 Soviet documentary, Salt for Svanetia. Set in the remote Caucasus mountains of Georgia, the visually stunning film tells the story of the indigenous Svan people and their ancient traditions, set against the context of Soviet modernisation and the first five year plan. Formed in Edinburgh in 2003, Moishe’s Bagel combine the energy and passion of world folk with the excitement and soul of improvisation, and they absolutely love playing at St George’s.
