St George’s favourite, internationally acclaimed pianist Paul Lewis returns to give a beautifully varied programme of Beethoven, Chopin, Sibelius and Débussy.  The programme begins and ends with two of Beethoven’s piano sonatas in minor keys – C minor, one of his most celebrated compositions, with the haunting melody of its famous Adagio middle movement and F minor, which is tempestuous and technically challenging. In between we have the Sibelius Bagatelles through which the Finnish composer sought to honour his predecessors, including Beethoven, Débussy’s captivating Children’s Corner, dedicated to his three-year old daughter, with the syncopated ragtime of its exuberant last movement, and Chopin’s Polonaise with its enigmatic harmonic language.
