Philosophy Salon: Philosophy & Fiction

Part of Explore New Worlds

This event has passed.

Philosophy is often presented as dry, analytic and logical. However, there have always been writers who have explored philosophy through the imaginative lens of fiction. In this salon, Julian Baggini will be in conversation with two of our most gifted philosophical novelists, Samantha Harvey and Joanna Kavenna. You’ll have a chance to join the discussion too.

Samantha Harvey is the author of four novels, The Wilderness (winner of the AMI Literature Award and the Betty Trask Prize), All Is Song, Dear Thief and The Western Wind (winner of the 2019 Staunch Book Prize). Her latest book is the memoir The Shapeless Unease.

Joanna Kavenna is the author of several critically acclaimed works of fiction and nonfiction, including The Ice Museum, Inglorious (winner of the Orange Award for New Writing), A Field Guide to Reality and – most recently – the critically acclaimed Zed. She was named as one of the Telegraph’s Best Writers under 40 in 2010 and as one of Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists in 2013.
