Join philosophers Julian Baggini, Rebecca Buxton and Andrew Janiak for a celebration of the forgotten female philosophers of history and deep dive into what philosophy has missed through their neglect.
Janiak’s book The Enlightenment’s Most Dangerous Woman: Émilie du Châtelet and the Making of Modern Philosophy tells of a thinker who broke through the many barriers facing women at the time and published a major philosophical treatise. Within a few short years, she became famous: she was read and debated throughout Europe. We’ll discuss Châtelet, other neglected female philosophers and the barriers still facing women intellectuals today.
