Poetry Prom is a new series at St George’s curated and presented by the cream of Bristol’s spoken word scene, High Art & Mischief. Poetry Prom connects you to great poetry, past and present, read – and sometimes written – by Melanie Branton, Edson ‘Doc’ Burton, Patrick Chandler, Jeremy Toombs and Isabel White. Spend a thoughtful hour exploring wordsmiths and words that changed the world.
Following last month’s rhyming revelations, High Art & Mischief brings you planet earth, the bucolic and the bacchanalian, harvesting Whitman’s Leaves of Grass, Plath’s defiant Tulips, words for when you need to go down to the sea again, or check out the melting worlds of Lachlan McKinnon and Maura Dooley… We’ll be joining Robert Frost, Christina Rossetti, W B Yeats and a host of other voices to help us save the world from ourselves. A planet of many colours, an hour of vocal gymnastics for late autumn.
This is the second of a mini-series of Poetry Proms this autumn.
The final event is: Saturday 22nd November: Forgotten Voices of War Versus Peace
