Altered State brings together two famous activist groups – Pussy Riot and Led By Donkeys – for the very first time to discuss activism and accountability.
From hijacking billboards and lowering a huge banner of Putin’s face behind Nigel Farage, to punk performance protests that landed them in Russian jails, these groups have made global headlines with bold, satirical stunts that challenge power and expose hypocrisy.
This exclusive evening will feature Maria (Masha) Alyokhina and Olga Borisova of Pussy Riot, alongside Ben Stewart, James Sadri and Oliver Knowles of Led By Donkeys, in conversation with author and journalist Oliver Bullough.
We explore how bold, imaginative activism in public spaces can hold the powerful to account. We’ll talk about inspiring change in the face of state pressure and sometimes at great personal risk. Hear directly from those reshaping the art of protest on the global stage – practical tips on how to mobilise and outwit targets included!
Following the panel discussion, the audience will have the chance to take part in a Q&A.
Pussy Riot and Led by Donkeys will be signing copies of their latest books after the event.
The event is organised by Altered State, a talk series based in Bedminster. Altered State strive to inspire forward-thinking ideas and to cultivate a community for the curious and open-minded. We Need to Talk!
Age guidance for this event is 14+. Please be aware that there will be short clips of film that may contain distressing images and profane language. The conversation will contain reference to political events and global conflict.

Available to pre-order when booking your tickets, you can choose from a selection of house drinks on arrival, accompanied by a mezze board of bread, dips, olives, stuffed peppers, falafel, feta cheese and garden salad (all vegetarian).
