Rising Folk: Detta Kenzie

This event has passed.

Detta Kenzie is a Devon based folk singer creating original songs alongside reworking ancient Celtic music. With both Irish and Scottish heritage, Detta is committed to bringing old tunes back to life while simultaneously maintaining their traditional roots.

In her original work, a deep connection to the natural world is ever present. Specific references to Teignmouth, Shaldon, Dawlish, Dartmoor and the wider landscape of England’s beautiful South West bring a local strength to Detta’s creations. Themes of womanhood, love, loss, insomnia, anxiety, rebellion and rage can be found in her deeply narrative based songs. As a forager of stories, Detta aims to create and rework music which explores the diversity of the landscape and its ability to both mould and reflect human experience.

This is a Rising Folk session curated and presented by Ant Miles, who’ll be in conversation with Detta as part of the event.
