Rising Folk: Frankie Archer

This event has passed.

Frankie Archer inhabits a startlingly original soundworld, rooted in her native Northumbrian tradition but imaginatively and boldly mashed up with a world of other influences.

She uses her fiddle, electronics and voice to make “The most refreshing and interesting treatment of traditional music that I’ve heard in ages” (Jim Moray). Over the Border, Frankie’s debut single, was accompanied by “a kind of awe” (Tradfolk) and was followed by a powerful version of Alex Glasgow’s Close the Coalhouse Door – bare, stark and demanding attention. As well as her fresh and exciting solo venture, Frankie also plays with Kenyan musician Rapaasa Otieno and with folk-infused prog bandleader Joshua Burnell.

“A fascinating and intoxicating blend of the contemporary and the traditional” Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio 2
