What role does silence have in music, philosophy, wellbeing, and language? This event will explore how silence is used in music composition and performance, in speech and language, and in mindfulness practice. We will also present a philosophy of silence!

The event will include a musical performance from University of Bristol music department schola cantorum, a short mindfulness practice, and a panel discussion. Philosophers Dan Degerman and Anthony Everett, composer John Pickard, musicologist Emma Hornby, and mindfulness practitioner and music therapist Kate Binnie will explore the multifaceted roles of silence. The event will include a free interval drink.

This event is hosted by Project EPIC: Epistemic Injustice in Healthcare, a Discovery Award grant generously funded by the Wellcome Trust [226603/Z/22/Z].
