Sounding the Waters: Bob Walton, Maggie Harris & JOW

This event has passed.

In the premier of this new collaboration, poets Maggie Harris & Bob Walton and musicians JOW (James Gow, cello, & Pete Judge, trumpet) explore our shifting relationship with water in a continuous flow of words and sounds.

Expect image-rich poems that reach into rivers, surf, oceans, tides and clouds, alongside musical seascapes and sonic droplets that sit somewhere between folk, jazz and classical chamber music. This performance is approximately one hour long without an interval.

Among numerous accolades for her ten collections of poetry and fiction, Maggie Harris has been awarded the Guyana Prize for Literature, the Commonwealth (Caribbean) Short Story Prize and the Wales Poetry Award, while her Selected Poems was published by the Guyana Classics Library.

Bob Walton’s first collection Workings won the Welsh Arts Council’s New Poet Award, his second, Sax Burglar Blues, was shortlisted for Wales Arts Review Book of the Year 2018, and his third is in the wings. He’s twice won the North American Festival of Wales Poetry Award.

Individually, James Gow and Pete Judge have impressive credentials in jazz, folk, theatre and multi-media projects. As JOW, they display a distinctive & elegant synergy. “There is no ego to this, just musicians playing organic music. The audience love them” (Bristol 24/7)
