Tommy Smith: No Wires

This event has passed.
Music as nature intended, unamplified and unfiltered.

A new acoustic jazz series for St Georges, curated by music writer Phil Johnson, offers pure unamplified music where the unfiltered instruments can be heard as nature intended, and the sounds come from where they’re being made, not from speakers on the stage.

The series is launched by the great Scots saxophonist Tommy Smith, in a site-specific solo show where he ‘plays the building’, exploring the sonic characteristics of the unique acoustic environment in an hour-long programme of improvisations. Tommy will decided what he plays as he goes, drawing from the jazz, folk, Gaelic and praise song traditions, no doubt with nods to some of the greats such as  Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Stan Getz and Robbie Burns.
