Flashmob Messiah!

Join us on Sunday 5 June

Bristol loves a good flashmob and we warmly invite you and any singing friends to join us for a massed rendition of the famous Hallelujah! Chorus from Handel’s Messiah on Sunday 5 June. This is a one-off opportunity as part of the celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in Bristol. Our core partners for this event are Bristol Choral Society, City of Bristol Brass Band and the Fitzhardinge Consort and we are looking for singers from all backgrounds to join a large massed choir for this special occasion. Anyone is welcome to join us, it doesn’t matter if you are an experienced singer or just sing in the shower, we are looking for enthusiasm and a sense of fun above all else.

How do I join the flashmob?

On Sunday 5 June, please be ready on Millennium Square with your printed music (more info below!) at 12.30pm for the first flash mob performance.

Then we will head to College Green around 12.50pm for a final flashmob performance to launch the Big Jubilee Lunch.

There is no dress code for the event, simply turn up wearing something comfortable, and please bear in mind our variable weather! Alternatively, if you want to stand out, our Festival of Voice and Flashmob colour is hot pink (the same colour as this web page!) – so please feel free to wear a nod (or more) to this if you would like to.

Friends and family are more than welcome to come and watch, just ask them to be at Millennium Square at 12.30pm.

Can I learn to sing Hallelujah?

Ben England BEM, founder of Homechoir, is offering free online sessions to help you learn the piece, or refresh your memory of it.

You can download the music free here:

Please note we are not providing any sheet music, please bring your own copy or download it.
(All editions are acceptable, and we will be performing the piece in the conventional key.)

George Frideric Handel never visited Bristol, but see if you can spot him on 5 June…

The first performance of his choral masterpiece Messiah in an English cathedral took place right here in Bristol in 1758, and so it is fitting that College Green and the grounds of Bristol Cathedral will resound to our unique rendition of Hallelujah! Chorus.

We look forward to seeing you on 5 June!
Please help us spread the word by circulating details of this event to your singing groups, choirs and like-minded friends.
