Awake Arise Scratch Choir with Neil Johnson

Come and join us to be part of the Bristol’s Awake Arise scratch choir! In this specially commissioned vocal workshop, with choir leader, Neil Johnson (Heartwood Chorus) you’ll have the opportunity to learn stunning arrangements of songs from the Awake Arise repertoire, alongside other folk seasonal favourites. You don’t need to be able to read music or sing solo but some experience of singing in a choir or group is helpful.

We’ll be performing in a pop-up performance in the café bar just before the Awake Arise show in St George’s main auditorium on Wednesday 9th December at 6.30pm. Workshop times are 2pm – 5pm.

Neil is a choir leader, guitarist, arranger and composer. He’s passionate about adapting traditional songs for choirs and is at the heart of the burgeoning folk-choir scene, leading Heartwood Chorus (“the finest folk choir in the UK,” Bristol 24/7). Most recently he’s been bringing his energetic and infectious style to newer choirs Secret Wednesday Choir (South Bristol) and Deep Lock Folk (Bath). Neil is delighted to be working with St George’s on the Awake Arise scratch choir project, “I love the thrill of helping people come together in song. It’s magic. No more flight cases, no tangled cables. It’s the fastest way I know for people to connect.”
