Roof-raising folk, a stunning string quartet and Senegalese kora bring the sunshine to St George’s.

Ranagri is an award-winning folk band hailing from Ireland and England. The band weave a mesmerising mix of harp, guitar, bouzouki, flutes, vocals and bodhran.

Classically trained, with a contemporary folk twist, Ranagri are as happy to make you dance, as they are to make you smile or shed a tear.
Acclaimed albums include ‘Playing for Luck’, ‘Fort of the Hare’ and ‘The Great Irish Songbook’ (with pop legend Tony Christie) all produced at the Grammy Award-winning Stockfisch Records.

Alongside Donal Rogers, Jordan Murray, and Eleanor Dunsdon, Ranagri is also home to the remarkable Eliza Marshall, an award-winning musician who has collaborated with Catrin Finch, Peter Gabriel, and performed as a soloist with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and The Royal Opera House. A firm audience favourite, Ranagri return to Bristol Folk Festival by public demand.

‘You’re unlikely to hear anything more irresistible and more folky this year’ Louder Than War

Vulva voce re-write the ‘string quartet’ as we know it. Taking influence from folk, jazz, classical, techno and funk, they create original music which honours women’s stories throughout history

A must-watch collective, alongside their string instruments, Vulva Voce use singing, movement and anecdotes to connect with audiences. The result is a genre-defying, universally appealing live show that brings people together though music, stories and good grooves.

Artists on the rise, Vulva Voce have gained recognition with BBC Radio 3, the GRAMMYs website and Clash Magazine. They have already performed at Glastonbury Festival, SXSW Texas, WOMEX and the Bridgewater Hall.

“They wreaked havoc… with savage originals that infused chamber music with wild riot grrrl flair.” Clash Magazine

Amadou Diagne has centuries of West African Music at his fingertips. A former member of The National Orchestra of Senegal, Amadou rose to become one of the top West African Stars and a busy musician on the vibrant Dakar music scene.

Since moving to England, Amadou has been busy forging his musical identity. A favourite musician of Bristol Folk Festival, Kora-master Amadou brings his groove to St George’s

“A Senagalese Kora player who reminds us that it’s not just England or America that has Folk music. His lyrical, fluid playing is simply mesmerising.” Bristol 247
