You may know it as the X Factor’s audition music – or the music from the 1970s Old Spice advert. It was even used in Only Fools and Horses. O Fortuna, from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, must be one of the most widely recognised and iconic pieces of classical music.
Bristol Ensemble
Fitzhardinge Consort
Tonight, Bristol Ensemble and the Fitzhardinge Consort perform the whole of Carmina Burana, filling St George’s with its thunderous, joyous choral sections and more idyllic songs and dances, originally inspired by a set of medieval poems. The full programme takes in other beautiful, popular twentieth-century pieces, also inspired by Renaissance dances and melodies. A gorgeous, exhilarating, even tumultuous, evening of music [guaranteed to make you want to buy a surf board].
