Santiago Canon-Valencia & Naoko Sonoda

Part of Lunchtime Concerts

This event has passed.

Santiago Cañón-Valencia is one of the most exciting young cellists of his generation.

The Colombian born multi-award winning cellist has been praised for his “flawless technical mastery” (The Strad) and his imaginative approach to programming.

Already much in demand internationally, his debut at St George’s with regular partner Naoko Sonoda includes Debussy’s landmark cello sonata and [an arrangement] of Stravinsky’s colourful ballet Pulcinella. This is St George’s Bristol’s second year of partnership with BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists Scheme, and the concert will be recorded for broadcast at a later date.

Duparc Lamento
Debussy Cello Sonata
De Falla Suite Popular Española (+ ritual fire dance)
Stravinsky Suite Italienne

“Technically flawless, he’s totally under the skin of the composers’ idioms.” – The Strad
